when IS becomes WAS

Teaching the tenses,
nonchalantly.
Simple present, simple past.
Is, Are and the special Am
Was and Were.

Never realising the finality of
changing IS to WAS.
Once done,
Cannot be undone.
It is, it was.
He is, he was.
She is, she was.

Heart-breaking,
Heart-rending,
Irrevocable change.
Is to Was.

It's Over.
